Re: Winter Lover

Hi VR Hawks, didn't Louis Armstrong die the day you were born?

Re: Winter Lover

If you are referring to Louis Armstrong, the jazz musician, you are wrong, John. He died on July 6, 1971 of heart-attack.

Re: Winter Lover

However, Louis was born on 4th July, 1900. At least, that's what he said. He celebrated his birthday on this day as he was not exactly sure of his birthdate. He usually gave the year 1900, but sometimes used 1901. It has now been found and is thought that his actual birthdate is the 4th August, 1901.

Re: Winter Lover

I've been biking (bicycling) a lot lately with the intention of losing weight.  It's working!  I've lost ten pounds in the past two months, and that's without even dieting!  Now I weight 214 U.S. pounds, and I really should keep going and lose a lot more.  I have a Trek Y26 mountain bike, which I use on the road, or in the woods occasionally on a trail.  I have some nice hand grips made by Ergon.  They have a special shape so my hands don't go numb.

Re: Winter Lover

Now I'm dancing and biking to stay fit, but still weigh 214 pounds.
The winter was not very procipitous!!  We might get our second
storm of the winter tonight.  I'll look outside now, it's  after midnight
by twenty minutes.  The flakes are starting to fall, but there is no
accumulation on the deck yet.  I noticed krassi hasn't been around
since early Feb.  I hope he comes back to enlighten us somemore.
The place I dance at is country music and rock too, and is open only
once per week.  I have no idea how to dance, but I force myself too,
and it turns out to be a great time anyways!!

Oh, good news!  Now I weigh 206 lbs., plus or minus 2, depending on hydration.
I've taken up walking and togging.  Togging is jogging on your toes, and cutting the heels off of your old pair of sneakers.  And I still bicycle too.

Re: Winter Lover

Well, good news!!  Now I weight 200 lbs!!  Still that might fluctuate a bit during any week.
I've been jogging on my toes with mocassins like the American Indians around a lake that is 5.5 miles around.  I'm just a tad concerned about my left knee.  Maybe tar roads aren't what Indians ran on.  So today I'm just doing stretching exercises and not running.  I try really hard not to make any impact on my feet when I run, but still, a tiny ache is near my left knee, but I think a days rest or two and doing other things like swimming will be a good change.  Bye now!! (silly blog by John)

Re: Winter Lover

Congrats! Now you have to keep it down for at lest a year, or your body will just put it back on again when your guard is down.

Yes, take those little pains seriously.

I read somewhere that km for km walking is just as good as running for weight loss, and has less impact (takes longer though).

Re: Winter Lover

Thanks MiF.  I'm really proud of myself.  I used to hike in the woods on trails a lot back in 2000 and 2001.  Some people walk this lake almost as fast as I run it because I've met them on both sides of the lake passing by in opposite directions.  Lately I've started to run faster and maybe running on my toes won't be the perfect answer to knee impulse pressure.  Also, maybe I bend my knees too much, and I'm not used to it that way.  I tend to try things all the improper ways, as you can infer from my math as well, but time will tell how I fair.  I could try soccer on soft field.  There are some pick-up games I might be able to find.  One is at a school for the deaf nearby, I saw on the net...

Re: Winter Lover

Three weeks ago an ache showed up in my left foot below the inner
ankle.  I stopped all walking on my toes and read about tendons.  I
have scheduled a doctors appointment for this ache.  I may have
overused the front of my foot with dancing, skating, and walking;
all on the front of my foot keeping the heel elevated most of the
time with the use of the calf muscle, except I skated normally.
There are 3 tendons under the inner ankle, and I'll let you know what the doctors find out...

Re: Winter Lover

Thanks.  So do I.  I love to exercise, since I had to lose lots of
weight that was put on over the years due to hunger brought
on by necessary medications since my diagnosis in 2002.

Re: Winter Lover

Unfortunately winter is over where I live.
And luckily I am running and biking with
no foot pain!! Hurray! I altered my
technique of running to be more normal,
except that I still land on my toes, but
then shift the weight onto my heels.
Still kind of backwards, but no knee pain!!
27/22=1.2272727272727(27...)
I never did get an ultrasound or MRI
of my foot since rest from exercise
did the trick before I got that far with
the doctor.
