Here looking for help teaching myself math.

My first request is for help teaching myself geometry from the ground up. I'm in school and the geometry class was full. The best solution is to now teach it to myself at least well enough to pass a placement test into higher math. Can you guys help me with what materials I should use to teach myself geometry? I didn't pay attention in high school so I know almost nothing about geometry and need to learn from scratch, but I have no idea where to start when it comes to completely self teaching.

Thanks for any responses.

It starts with you.

1) Have you chosen a book to learn from?

1a) Post your questions here.

1b) Get geogebra.

In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

Will any college geometry book do? Do I just need to work through the book (obviously reworking problems as needed)?

Re: Here looking for help teaching myself math.

You will get lots of advice here, mine is only one voice. First, let me say you will pay dearly for the omission of not paying attention when you were in school. That was the easy way to learn, you have chosen the hard way.

I suggest you look at lots of geometry books, go to your local library or university library. Look all the introductory geometry books over, one of them will speak to you, one of them will be made for you. Grab that book and hold on to it. In the meantime before that time, tell what you know already, what you like about geometry. Fan your desire for this subject, you will need it to make progress, for only with a great love of math can you teach yourself.

Will any college geometry book do?

Of course not, that is like saying will any person do to be my spouse. It will take the best one for you to do the job.

(obviously reworking problems as needed)

Yes, you never pass up a chance to do a problem in your chosen field. Excellence means total absorption. Do as many problems as possible. Great problem solvers are great mathematicians.

hi Zer0

Welcome to the forum.  smile

The main Maths Is Fun site has lots of excellent 'teach yourself' pages:

Welcome Zer0. Best wishes with your journey through geometry. Permit me to ask: which school level are you at? From what I've read,  it seems you've passed high school. Is that correct?

Wow bobbym, your message is, for lack of a better word, heart reaching. I'll take that as an advice myself.

It is the advice I gave myself 100 years ago.
