I was seeing the following kind of behaviour on my dad's pendrive:
Everytime it is being inserted into a windows computer, some malware is copying all the contents of the device to a device with a hidden folder with a non UTF-8 name making it non-accessible to ordinary users. Then it is creating a shortcut in that device which allows you to open that folder but when you inspect the shortcut file by hand it is linked to somewhere in system32 (and I could not figure out how that link actually works). The antivirus then deleted this shortcut, making it even difficult to recover the files
To fix it, I inserted it into a Linux system and copied all the contents of the folder to the root directory of the device. Then I inserted it back to Windows and the same thing happened again. So, I inserted it to Linux again and took a look at the files. I removed a few *.ini files and now it worked ok.
P.S: We do not use Windows XP. Win XP uses *.ini files to store autorun data on flash drives which can be malicious and we're aware of that. This was still happening on Windows 7

The autorun and runonce ability of XP is very dangerous for the ordinary user. People who are smart enough to be aware of the danger usually head over to linux. What they do not understand is that if you put the same amount of effort and knowledge into XP as they do into linux, it is a perfectly safe OS.

I am not that smart or knowledgeable unfortunately.

That is not what I meant. Eventually security becomes such a big problem that people have to do drastic things.

I was not talking about windows XP.
We use Win 7 and we still saw that ridiculous problem. Why?

Well that is part of my point XP when you hunt around has more security features because of the third party software. Linux has a sandbox but Sandboxie is better.

There is not much difference between 7, 8, 8.1, Vista and XP. Except that XP has less spyware on it.
I am going to eat and watch a movie with my brother, see you later.

Nope, I watched an old episode of Lost In Space.

It was and always is nostalgic. It is a very bad show. So, can we balance the pleasure derived from nostalgia opposed to the analytical mind criticizing the show's quality?

No. Nostalgia is mindless.

Hmmm, perhaps because you can not have it yet...
