Two parallel whires, separated by a distance D, ... find the force...

Two parallel whires, separated by a distance D (midpoint distance), are charged with a current density L (each whire has a radius R). If the whires have the potential +/- X Volts, what is the force per unit length between them?

Re: Two parallel whires, separated by a distance D, ... find the force...

Wow,we are doing this part of physics now, too! smile

First find the current I using the formula

where S is the area of the wire cross-section.

Next use the formula for Ampere's force:

where I is the current,d is the length of the conductor which is this case a unit length and B is the induction of the magnetic field.

B can be calculated through the formula

where I is again the current, r is the distance between the two conductors and m is a constant that equals

If you have any questions, feel free to post them. smile

I want to ask if a mod could texify my post.    Stefy

Hope I got your formulas correct, Bob

hi Stefy,

texify

?? Now you are making up your own English.  Do you mean convert the formulas into Latex?

I never got to thank you for" texifying" the formulas. smile
