Save Me From Failure

Hi guys

I have my big final test comming up in geometry, its the most impotant test of the chapter and if i don't get a C or higher my Struggling grade will crumble to a C- or even a D!!!!

I managed to find out what the test was going to cover, AND REALIZED THAT I WASNT GOING TO GET ANY OF IT.  faint

I'm kinda in a panic and I have about two days to figure all this out. sad

I went back into all the previous chapters to get problems that are similar to the ones I might be coming across in the actual test, I will post problems from the Chapters here and any help is appreciated. up

My hope is, to post few problems from each  chapter and get the answers for them, that way I can get a general idea of what to do  and answer a few in the exercises.

Its really important I get better at doing this stuff and pass this test! So please help me! big_smile

Re: Save Me From Failure

Ok my first one is ratios:

I think I get the basic stuff like if it say here to "find the Ratio in simplest form"
and they give me: Fifteen minutes to Two hours" then the answer is just 15/2, right?

That was a guess
However I have no clue with this other stuff so here it is:

Find the Ratio in simplest form:

2/3 to 3/2

Next is this:

Find the ratio of X to Y

X/3 = 5/8 = 5/Y

and

Solve for X

3:12 = X:16

and

X/5 = 2/3

P.S. these exersises are multiple choice so if anyone wants the choices i can post those too, unless you prefer it this way smile

Re: Save Me From Failure

Hi  misheeru;

Don't Panic!

I think I get the basic stuff like if it say here to "find the Ratio in simplest form"
and they give me: Fifteen minutes to Two hours" then the answer is just 15/2, right?

Let's start here. Fifteen minutes to 2 hours is not 15 / 2. The units are different. To compare physical things they have to be in the same units. the answer is 15 mins / 120 mins which is 1 / 8. Do you understand this?

By units you mean the hours and the minute right?
So then if is had just been 15 to 2 would it be the same?

Re: Save Me From Failure

Nope.

15 / 2 is 7.5 which is a lot different than 1 / 8 which is .125

Re: Save Me From Failure

hmmm ok so  for example if it was 30 to 6 would the answer be 5/1?

But if it was 30 minute to 6 hours it would be something like 30 mins to 360 mins or  1/12... or something like that?

Re: Save Me From Failure

That's right. You wouldn't exchange pennies for dollars, would you? What is 125 pennies to 8 dollars?

Re: Save Me From Failure

Remember change to the same units with physical things that are in units. You can't compare inches to feet.

Re: Save Me From Failure

ok so theres 100 pennies in each dollar

so i would cange to.... 125 pennies to 800 pennies? But then i think it goes to 6.4... that isn't write is it?

This is the next one:

Multiply the top and bottom by 6:

Re: Save Me From Failure

Not true. I am never annoyed at a question. I learn a lot from answering a question.

Next one:

Find the ratio of X to Y

X/3 = 5/8 = 5/Y the answer is Y = 8.

anyway...
so ur last one do we do something similar with this

3:12 = X:16? If we are solving for X?

Re: Save Me From Failure

You solve these by cross multiplying.

x = 4

Re: Save Me From Failure

ok so for exapmle if it was say X/2 = 6/2

then it would be like X * 2 = 2 * 6?

Which then, assuming I have the 1st part right goes to  2 * 6 = 2X?  which goes to 12 = 2X? Then X = 6?
