Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

I guess the new function makes a lot of people excited in this forum. Making a pop-up window for the smilies is quite a good idea.

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

As it turns out, it seems better to put them below - gives a nice wide area to type in, and they are not very distracting lower down.

Fun and professional, all in one!

The most distracting one is mr roflol roflol - get rid of him?

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

I think we need to change the mr roflol from that to another one mr roflol not so distracting, if you can find one.

I don't think you should get rid of this roflol

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

We don't exactly have to get rid of Mr ROFLOL... roflol

Instead: roflols5nn.gif

And in some styles, especially light coloured ones, Mr Swear's speech bubble is hard to see, so a possible addition:

swearb2gr.gif swear

Except now it won't show up in the darker styles.

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

Aaaarrrrggghhh! Smilies...dancing....must...restrain...fist of death...

::deep breaths::

Ok. How hard would it be to add a profile option to turn off the display of the smilies below the post box? Well, maybe pretty hard, since you'd probably have to add a database field and all the headaches that entails. Maybe I can get used to them, but...but...D'oh!

Hey, and jU, could I ask you a favor? Would you mind changing your signature to use the url= tag to reduce your signature link to something like this: Visit jU's Pet

Here's the code:

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

Oh ... I was worried some people may find them a bit much.

The idea was to be able to communicate feelings a bit better ... many times I have seen people misunderstand other's intentions.

Can I get the views of other members on this? Any other ideas?

Maybe smilies could be disabled in some forums? If it is possible.

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

Or maybe restrict it to one smilie per post. If it's possible. smile
That way, there'd be less spam and it wouldn't eat up as much bandwidth.

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

Yes, that's a good idea. Maybe there is some way of having a smilie 'counter' and it just rejects the post if there is more than one. Or we could put a censor somehow and change the smilie into 'math'. smile

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

There actually is an option to turn of display of smilies in posts. It's there for people like me, who despise animated smilies...

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

Why of course!

Smilies can be turned off in profile ... but that doesn't stop them appearing below the "post a reply" box

... but I could try to do that too (only for people who turn smiley display off).

Good idea?

Yes, but wouldn't you then get stuff like :rolleyes:wave:dunno:eek:tongue:up:shame:sleep:P:swear:/:):kiss:up:wave:dunno...etc.?

I'd find that equally annoying.

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

I like the limited smilies per post idea. It could help to stop people from using the smilies to spam the forums. The idea could be taken. smile

What would be an appropriate limit? One or two smilies?

One for me. I don't use too much smilies in one post.

One question to ask, why do you people hate animated smilies so much?

Re: Emoticons - Smilie Expressions

I don't mind them normally, just found it a bit distracting to see lots of them when I was composing a reply.
