Hope you enjoy the forum! We're all maths fans too smile

I know it already says it on the description of the board but maybe a reminder of putting the type of problem in the topic?
I realise generally our helpers here are competent in all forms of maths. Some of us - such as me - however, can only do things up to A-Level or such. If we have a thread which just says 'PLEASE Help...' as the topic - we don't know which branch of maths it is - and it turns out to be some really really complicated stuff, we didn't know it wasn't worth looking at and can try helping someone else who is stuck.

Ohh, I really like that too, that's a great idea Bob =] Everyone will recognise him and get the idea even without the bubble - I do like the bubble, by the way. Although I have to say I don't know who he is either. He looks clever though!

Rod: I actually seen Mr. T somewhere - a magazine I think it was - and it just made me remember here... the memories big_smile

Everything is so busy these days - and yet here I am procrastinating on here. Given up on the maths, I'm afraid! Yes, shame on me sad
I studied further Maths, Biology and Chemistry and now I'm doing my second year of Biomedical Sciences at University. There are so many assignments and reading to catch up on; at the moment I'm applying for an internship in a lab/hospital for a possible placement year; I'm taking my driving theory test soon; my part-time job may as well be full time because they keep scheduling me in lots D: Oh well, I'm sure I'll get through somehow smile

I was experimenting with mouldy food today, and last week I took a swab out my nose to see if I had Staphylococcus Aureus in it - about 40% of people do. It's a lot of fun and I'm really enjoying it!

Wow, I love the way the clouds fade just after the big picture. And if you are definately going to change it without changing the Geometric Shape, I'd go for it, because it looks so much tidier with the links on the left missing and on the top instead. I was having a look for them though and it took me a second to see where they had moved to, because they look a tiny bit like adverts.
Have you had a go at making them bold, or does it look a bit strange? The search/index buttons are in bold too, and they stand out for me. If they were in bold, they might be harder to miss, as at the moment I think everyone is probably just going to click on the picture because it's very attention-drawing.
I can't think of anything better than the Geometric Shape either :-] Unless there's some really advanced maths symbol that can go there to get around the 'audience problem'?

Edit: I just realised they're exactly the same links. tongue

Thanks ganesh, how are you? Have you been keeping alright? I just remembered MathsIsFun.com a few days ago, and thought I would pop in and visit. I see there's lots of the old people still here :] Well, not old, but you know what I mean!

I actually own a solar powered torch :] It has a little handle which you can wind up as well if it's dark, so you can power it up that way if you've used all the power it collected during the day.

Not such a stupid invention ;]

I have Animal Crossing for the DS! I haven't been on it in months. I finished playing after I got all the fish and bugs (hated the tarantula sad) and I'm just missing some of the Gyroids. I mean to get it for the Wii.

Fact number 71 might be a little bit out of date. A Colossal Squid was caught in February 2007 in the Antarctic - with even bigger eyes!!
The Giant and Colossal squids are different species, and not different forms (races) of the other, as the Colossal also has sharp hooks on its tenacles, which are shorter than those of the Giant Squid.

He said it, and he didn't realise what he had said. We were all laughing at him, and he was like, "what?" and he really thought the directions for storage were directed at him. It was so funny.
Hehehe...

The same thing's happening here - but it's not a problem at all. :]

#15 Re: Dark Discussions at Cafe Infinity » Harry Potter, Voldermort and the other that survives. » 2008-07-27 09:24:28

Hehe.....did you know that Ollivanders is an anagram of Ronald Lives? And Harry potter is an anagram of Try Hero Part....and Hermione Granger is an anagram of Me Ginger Hero Ran (and Ron did run away in book 7, while Hermione was drastically upset...)

I think Hary Potter rocks.

This is true.

I was visiting my grandad a few days ago. Due to this extreme illness some years ago, he was left housebound and he has to take a lot of medication. He can't walk very far at all, but he can get around the house and stuff - just not for a little while solid.

As some of you may know, the British weather lately has been fabulous. I said, "Grandad, why don't you go and sit outside in the garden where it's nice?"
And he said, "Oh, no, I couldn't do that, flower. Don't you sit out in the sun either."
And I asked, "Why not?"

He looked at me with a deadly serious expression, and said:
"Because on all of these tablets, it says "Keep out of direct sunlight.""

Geek tongue

I'm also doing Biology and Chemistry. I had a really difficult time deciding what I wanted to do because I wanted to do nearly everything, but then I decided I really wanted to be with sciencey and mathsy stuff. But at heart, I'm not majorly a maths enthusiast. It's Chemistry that gets me. All those protons, neutrons, electrons, quarks, atoms, molecules, how they all fit together with everything and trying to imagine they exist. And making stuff react....that is so cool. I didn't think I'd enjoy it, I just took it for background knowledge, but I love it now.

Are there any parts of stats where you have to do it by hand?

I am indeed.
I'm doing Further maths but I only got a B in S1 so I'm re-sitting it. I'm doing C3, C4 and M1 this year and then next year we're doing FP1 FP2 and D1....I think. I don't get why we have to do Stats, when a computer can do it anyway. I asked my teacher what the point was and she said there wasn't one. ???

#23 Re: Help Me ! » Surds » 2008-04-06 22:08:35

But what's all this thing about my Maths Teacher saying next year we'd be doing stuff on imaginary numbers? Like square roots of negative numbers?

Same here.....
The really annoying thing is that the formulas they don't give you in the booklet I don't know. And the formulas they do give you in the booklet, I know off by heart...
